Deepak Chahar doubtful for the rest of IPL 2024

CSK’s CEO Kasi Vishwanathan confirmed that the all-rounder has stayed back in Chennai

Only two deliveries into his spell, Deepak Chahar was struggling with fitness. The right-arm seamer was seen holding his hamstring as he walked back, grimacing in a lot of pain.

Chahar never returned for the rest of the innings, as the five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions were left one bowler short in their defence against Punjab Kings on Wednesday (May 1).

"Deepak injury is not looking good. I will not say he is ruled out of the season but doubtful," Kasi Viswanathan, Chennai Super Kings’ CEO told Cricbuzz.

Even at the post-match press conference after CSK’s loss, their head coach, Stephen Fleming, had said that Chahar’s injury didn’t look very good.

“Travel log is very busy. There are a lot of ins and outs. So Deepak Chahar doesn’t look good. My initial feeling wasn’t great. I’m hoping for a more positive report when we talk to the physio and have a look,” Fleming said on Chahar.

Will the 31-year-old travel to Dharmshala, where CSK are slated to play their next league game against Punjab Kings?

"He has stayed back in Chennai. We're waiting for a report from the medical team," Viswanathan confirmed.

It was not the only injury that threatened the five-time champions in their home loss against PBKS, with Matheesha Pathirana and Tushar Deshpande also missing the game. However, unlike Chahar, the duo have travelled to Himachal Pradesh, and there is a good chance that they could be available for an all-important clash against PBKS.

"We will know about their availability only on Sunday," the CSK CEO said.
