Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) registered their fifth win in a row after they defeated the league leaders St Lucia Kings (SLK) by 35 runs in match 29 of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024, held at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on September 28 (Saturday).
This victory pushed the Warriors to the numero uno position in the league, displacing the Kings with just one game to go ahead of the playoffs.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, the Warriors rode on the quick fifties from Shai Hope (56) and Shimron Hetmyer (58) to get to a mammoth total of 207/7 in their 20 overs.
Chasing 202 to win, Faf du Plessis was the only Kings batter that could get going, remaining unbeaten on 92 off 59 balls even as his team could manage only 172/7 in their 20 overs. Alzarri Joseph, batting at number nine was the second-best batter with 25* to his kitty. For the Warriors, all three main spinners–Moeen Ali, Imran Tahir and Gudakesh Motie picked two wickets each.
