CPL 2024 highlights: Guyana Amazon Warriors vs Saint Lucia Kings, Qualifier 1

Saint Lucia will now face either Guyana or Barbados Royals in the final on October 6 (Sunday)

Saint Lucia Kings (SLK) are one game away from winning the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) for the first time in their history as on October 2 (Wednesday) in Guyana, they booked their spot in the final of CPL 2024 by triumphing over the Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW).

In a rain-curtailed contest, the Kings beat the Warriors by 15 runs. Batting first, a 124-run opening stand between Johnson Charles (79) and Faf du Plessis (56) took Saint Lucia to 198/5. Tim Seifert (18 off 11) and David Wiese (13* off 7) also played useful hands as Moeen Ali’s efforts with the ball (2/24 off 4) weren’t enough for Guyana to choke Saint Lucia.

In response, GAW were pinged by regular strikes as they lost a wicket every three overs. By the time the first ball of the 12th over was bowled, their score read 77/4. From this position, however, Shimron Hetmyer hit four sixes in six balls to 106/4 at the end of 13 overs.

The Warriors were still 15 runs behind DLS par but Hetmyer’s aggression gave them new-found hope.

To their dismay, however, it started pouring down and so the officials took the players off the field. The rain never relented and the players never got back on to the field. And so Saint Lucia progressed by registering a 15-run victory thanks to DLS.

Saint Lucia will now face either Guyana or Barbados Royals in the final on October 6 (Sunday).
