Cooper Connolly out of Pakistan T20Is with fractured hand

The Australia all-rounder suffered a blow to his left hand off a short delivery from Mohammad Hasnain in the third ODI in Perth

Australia all-rounder Cooper Connolly has been ruled out of the T20 International (T20I) series against Pakistan due to a fractured hand. He suffered a blow on the hand off Mohammad Hasnain in the 17th over of the third One-Day International (ODI) in Perth. He played another delivery after which he realised something was not right.

The physios rushed onto the field, and after some treatment on, Connolly walked off with visible swelling on his left hand. Following the match, a Cricket Australia (CA) spokesperson confirmed that the 21-year-old, who has played four white-ball matches for his country, suffered a fracture to the fourth metacarpal of Connolly's left hand. CA are yet to name a replacement for him, but it will be made in due course.

The Perth Scorchers will keep a close eye on Connolly's progress, given that the Big Bash League (BBL) is set to begin on December 15. He also would have been available for a couple of Shield games had he been fit.

Connolly was seen as one of the contenders for the T20 World Cup in 2026, given his excellent finishing skills, which are in addition to his ability to chip in with a few overs of left-arm spin.

He made his debut on Australia's tour of the UK earlier this year, where he played one T20I apiece against England and Scotland. He was also part of the Australia A side who faced the visiting India A side, where he scored 37 in the first game, before linking up with the ODI squad ahead of the Pakistan series.
