New Zealand’s Chad Bowes registered his name into the record books after he smashed the fastest double century in List-A cricket, going past Australia’s Travis Head and India's Narayan Jagadeesan.
The 31-year-old Kiwi reached the milestone in only 103 balls, going past Head and Jagadessan's 114-ball double ton by quite a margin. Head scored a 114-ball ton in 2021 while playing for South Australia against Queensland. Jagadeesan, meanwhile, hammered the 114-ball double-ton against Arunachal Pradesh in the 2022 Vijay Hazare Trophy. On that day, the right-hander posted the highest ever List A score (277).
Playing for Canterbury in the Ford Trophy 2024-25, New Zealand’s premier List-A (One-Day, generally 50-overs) tournament, Bowes, on October 23 (Wednesday) smashed his maiden double ton against the Otago Volts at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch.
Bowes, who scored the first hundred runs of his innings in 53 balls, ultimately ended his innings at 205 off 110 balls, helping his team post 343/9 and win the match by 240 runs.
Ishan Kishan holds the record for the fastest double century in ODI cricket. The Indian left-hander smashed his way to 210 by reaching the coveted 200-run mark in just 126 balls against Bangladesh in 2022.
