Something rare happened in Windhoek when Canada played the fourth-ever super over in ODI history against Namibia on March 9 (Sunday). Canada went on to clinch the win, as they scored seven runs in the super over and restricted Namibia to just 3/2 in the second innings with important CWC League 2 points.
Earlier in the clash, Canada, who batted first, could only score 168 on the back of Navneet Dhaliwal’s 54 and late contributions from former skipper Saad Bin Zafar (15) as Bernard Scholtz picked up a three-wicket haul.
That was when rain took over and the match was curtailed to 39 overs a side. Namibia had to score 175, the revised target under the DLS method. In what was a stunning last-over finish, Namibia ended on 174 after Dylan Leicher’s superhero effort was cut short on 20, taking the game to super over.
As it turned out, Canada wiped the floor off pretty easily in the super over, becoming the fourth team in history to win an ODI in super over.
