Harry Brook seems to like New Zealand and Pakistan more than even his own country, England, as the Yorkshire batter hit his seventh away Test ton at the Basin Reserve, Wellington, on December 6 (Friday).
His 123 off 115 balls was also his 8th century overall in a young 23-match career.
On his way to his second consecutive century in the three-match series against New Zealand, the Englishman created a crazy batting record as he became the first batter ever to have a combination of 100 plus average and strike rate in one country.
At the end of England’s first innings in Wellington, Brook’s record in New Zealand read- 4 Tests, 6 innings, 623 runs, 103.83 average, 102.1 strike rate, 2 fifties, 3 hundreds.
Apart from his three centuries in the Kiwi nation, two at this tour and one in 2022, Brook has four centuries in Pakistan, which includes his triple century at Multan in October 2024.
The 25-year-old became the joint-fastest Englishman to 2000 Test runs in terms of matches (22) and fastest in terms of time (two years and 81 days) during the first Test at Christchurch. However, in this game, with his eighth Test ton, the Yorkshire-born entered yet another elite list.
With an innings to go in his 23rd match, Brook is only behind greats like Don Bradman, Vivian Richards, Graeme Pollock and Mike Hussey in terms of most runs by a batter after 23 Tests.
With 105 more runs in the next innings, Brook could break two records at once. He can become the man with the second most runs after the first 23 Tests, only behind Bradman. Brook currently has 2225 runs in 38 innings at an average of 61.81.
And with his ninth Test ton, he would equal Denis Compton for most Test centuries for an Englishman after the first 23 Tests.
