Brisbane weather: Is rain set to come to India’s rescue once again on Day 4?

According to the Australian Government’s Bureau of Metrology, there’s a 90% chance of rain tomorrow, with Brisbane likely to get up to 30 mm of rain

After heavy showers allowed only 13.2 overs to be bowled on the first day of the ongoing third Test between India and Australia, we managed to get a full day’s play on day two, in which the hosts ended up taking full control.

But having put themselves in the driver’s seat at stumps on day two, rain denied Australia the chance to drive home the advantage as only 33.1 overs were bowled on Day 3. The showers were not continuous and heavy like they were on the first day, but sharp, frequent bursts of rain disrupted the day and frustrated the hosts, big time.

However, Australia are still in the driver’s seat thanks to India losing four wickets across the 17 overs they faced on the third day. The Kangaroos’ path to victory is simple from here, and there looks to be only one path, which is bowling out India under 245, enforcing the follow on, and bowling them out again. But for that, Australia will need to take 16 more wickets, and they’ll need a lot of time for that.

So, will the weather aid them like it did on the second day?

Brisbane weather forecast for Day 4 (Tuesday, December 17)

Unfortunately, there is more bad news headed Australia’s way. The good news in the case of India, as they cannot possibly win the contest from here.

According to the Australian Government’s Bureau of Metrology, there’s a 90% chance of rain tomorrow, with Brisbane likely to get up to 30 mm of rain. There are also high chances of a thunderstorm sometime in the afternoon.

“Very high chance of showers, most likely in the morning and afternoon. The chance of a thunderstorm, possibly severe. Winds southeasterly 15 to 20 km/h becoming light before dawn,” is what the Bureau of Metrology says.

Weatherzone.com.au says that heavy rain could occur between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m., followed by a period of no rain and then once again heavy showers after 11 a.m.

This does not bode well for the Aussies, who have put themselves in such a position of strength despite losing the toss.

If we get another heavily shortened day tomorrow, the third Test will likely end in a draw unless India endures one of the worst collapses in recent times.
