Australia pacer Josh Hazlewood is set to miss the remainder of the Test series against India due to the recurrence of his calf injury. Hazlewood missed the day-night Test in Adelaide due to a side injury, and the decision to call him back for the Gabba Test has backfired. Scott Boland, who picked up five wickets in Adelaide, is expected to return for the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne.
Hazlewood hurt his right calf during the warm-up on December 17 (Tuesday) ahead of Day Four. He bowled just one over before walking off the field. Pat Cummins' men, as a result, will be one bowler short of the rest of the match.
Medical scans have confirmed he had strained his right calf and, consequently, is expected to miss the rest of the series. "A squad replacement will be made in due course," said a Cricket Australia (CA) spokesperson.
The 33-year-old quick bowled just six overs in the match, accounting for the wicket of Virat Kohli.
