Ben Curran, the brother of English cricketers Sam and Tom Curran, is on the verge of making his international debut for Zimbabwe. He has been named in Zimbabwe’s ODI squad that will soon go against Afghanistan.
It’s notable that the Curran family has roots in Zimbabwe, with Kevin Malcolm Curran (Ben's father) and Kevin Patrick Curran (Ben’s grandfather) both having played for Zimbabwe in the past. In fact, Kevin represented Zimbabwe in the 1983 World Cup in England.
Afghanistan will begin their Zimbabwe tour with a three-match T20I series on December 11, followed by three ODIs on December 17, and a two-Test series on December 26.
Curran has only been selected for the 50-over squad and not for the Test and ODI squads.
The 28-year-old left-handed batter, who signed with Northamptonshire in the English domestic circuit in 2018, has played 36 List A games and has 999 runs at an average of 33.30. He has a better record in first-class cricket, averaging 34.70 with the bat after 75 innings.
Craig Ervine will captain the ODI squad of Zimbabwe and will include the exciting left-arm pacer Newman Nyamhuri, who was recently part of Zimbabwe’s U-19 squad. He’s also part of the T20I squad, which Sikandar Raza will lead.
