BCCI, IPL franchise owners set to meet on July 31: Reports

The venue for the meeting is yet to be finalised, but it is expected to be held in Mumbai

The BCCI and the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise owners will meet on July 31, according to a report on Cricbuzz. The location for the meeting is yet to be finalised, but it is understood that it will take place late afternoon or late evening. The BCCI headquarters in the vicinity of the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, is likely set to be the venue for the meeting. IPL CEO Hemang Amin sent out a message on July 25 (Thursday) morning, and the franchise owners have confirmed their availability.

With the mega auction coming up in December, things like number of retentions and chances of having Right to Match (RTM) option during the auction, among other things are likely to be discussed.

It is understood that the franchise want to retain eight players, but they may have to settle for 5-6 in the end, which would be enough for a team to hang on to their core members, which could be crucial from the point of view of brand building and also vital for the franchise's image.

While RTM too is to be discussed, it is given to understand that the BCCI have already made a decision on the matter. Even in 2021, there was no RTM option. This subject is likely to be an area where the BCCI and the franchise owners are divided, but an amicable solution is expected to be reached by the end of the meeting.
