The 2024-25 Big Bash League got over on January 27 (Monday), with Hobart Hurricanes beating Sydney Thunder in the finale, and only a few hours later, Melbourne Renegades have already made a big move ahead of the next season. They have roped in Jason Behrendorff from Perth Scorchers on a three-year deal in the BBL's first 'Player Movement Window'.
The fifth-highest wicket-taker in the history of BBL, Behrendorff was with the Scorchers for 10 years and claimed 140 wickets in 105 innings @ 19.31 and an economy rate of 7.02. The left-arm seamer made the move after Perth missed the finals for the first time in five seasons. The Renegades too failed to qualify for the finals, finishing sixth on the points table.
"Moving to Melbourne has something my wife, Juvelle, and I have talked about as a goal whether the end of my career happened so to continue my career and play cricket in a city we both love is a blessing. I am really excited for what the next chapter holds with the Melbourne Renegades but just as importantly for my family too,” said Behrendorff.
Meanwhile, Renegades General Manager James Rosengarten added: "Jason is a world-class bowler and proven match-winner, so we’re delighted to have him on board. "His performances in BBL|14 and over a long period of time shows why he’s one of the most dangerous bowlers in the competition.”
Behrendorff has also featured in 12 ODIs and 17 T20Is for Australia, picking up 34 wickets across two formats.
Melbourne Renegades’ contracted players for BBL|15: Jason Behrendorff (contracted until BBL|17), Josh Brown (BBL|15), Harry Dixon (BBL|16), Jake Fraser-McGurk (BBL|17), Nathan Lyon (BBL|15), Fergus O'Neill (BBL|15), Tom Rogers (BBL|15), Tim Seifert (BBL|15), Will Sutherland (BBL|17), Adam Zampa (BBL|15)
