Batters were happy to get out of New York: Mark Adair

Ireland will play their next two games of the T20 World Cup 2024 in Lauderhill, Florida

The United States of America (USA) hosted the T20 World Cup for the first time and it has been quite well-received. While the pitches in Dallas had something in it for both batters and bowlers, the one in New York, barely anything ion it for the batters, and a score of about 115-120 would be match-winning one.

Ireland went down against Canada and India in New York recently, where they did not get enough on the board to get over the line. As a result, fast bowler Mark Adair says that the batters in the side were happy to get out of New York.

"We had a bit of a disappointing last game against Canada. Moved on from New York. I think there were two people happy to get out of New York. Mostly the batters. But yeah, look, it's been a tough enough start for us. But yeah, looking forward to getting stuck in the Fort Lauderdale if the weather plays ball," Adair said ahead of his side's clash against USA.

We have already had one washout in Lauderhill, Florida, and as things stand, the remaining three matches, including USA vs Ireland run the risk of heading in the same direction given that there has been plenty of rain in and around the city. However, Adair observed that most parts of the ground was indeed dry.

"There was a lot of flooding, and roads were closed, and shops were closed. I don't think there were too many people who came to leave the hotel, but no, at the ground today, it was actually remarkably dry," Adair said.

"I think there's still wet patches over the far side of the ground but you know considering what the place has been through 24 hours before I think the place is looking pretty good."

The US have given themselves a chance to make it through to the Super Eights, having notched up two wins out of three so far. Another win, or even a washout, would see them progress to the next round. While Adair acknowledges the growth of cricket in the US, he and his team intend to put a stop to it on June 14 (Friday).

"I went to watch the Miami Sharks play rugby on one of our days off, and you know you're hearing chatters about cricket in the stands behind you, and it's sort of something that you know that's something that we wouldn't have expected, and you certainly wouldn't expect to hear it in the stands behind you," the all-rounder said.

"It's obviously good for the game It's good for cricket in the USA, but hopefully we can put a bit of a halt to that tomorrow."

Ireland are yet to get off the mark in the tournament. They lost their first game against India by eight wickets and followed that up with a 12-run loss against Canada - both in New York.
