Bangladesh’s tour to Pakistan in jeopardy amidst political tension: Reports

Bangladesh’s series against Pakistan is in doubt due to the current civil unrest in Bangladesh

Due to the ongoing civil unrest in Bangladesh, the upcoming two-match Test between Pakistan and Bangladesh, slated to begin on August 21 (Wednesday), seems doubtful. The civil unrest kicked off after the forced resignation of Bangladesh’s long-standing Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina.

Given Bangladesh's current situation, the visitors’ travel plans appear highly uncertain, with the first Test in Rawalpindi (Aug 21) and the second Test in Karachi (Aug 30). According to TOI, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) even offered to make travel arrangements and host Bangladesh for extra days.

"The PCB has even offered to host their players for the extra days and provide them with all training facilities in Rawalpindi ahead of the Test matches but they have not responded as yet,” a PCB source said.

While Bangladesh’s A team has delayed their arrival in Pakistan by 48 hours, it remains to be seen whether the tour will go as planned given that Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB)’s president Najmul Hosain Papon also has fled the country.

"With the BCB president (Najmul Hosain Papon) also leaving the country, apparently the board is not functioning normally," the PCB source added.
