Babar Azam last scored a 50-plus score in the Boxing Day Test against New Zealand in Karachi. When he scored 161 at that time, little did we know that it would take two years for the batter to hit another fifty.

Incidentally, two years later, he scored a fifty once again in a Boxing Day Test after a gap of 733 days. He scored 50 off 85 against South Africa at the SuperSport Park, Centurion before becoming one of Marco Jansen's six victims in the innings.
In this period, Babar had managed just 352 runs at an average of 20.70 and had never scored more than 41. He resumed day three on 16 after rain had stopped play the previous day. He put on 79 for the fourth wicket with Saud Shakeel, which allowed Pakistan to cross the 150-run mark.
Shakeel went on to score 84, helping set the Proteas a target of 148. The match is evenly poised at the moment as the Proteas have 121 runs more to win the game but have just seven wickets in hand.
