Australia win Test series vs India for first time in 10 years; reclaim Border-Gavaskar Trophy

Pat Cummins' team came from behind to win the series 3-1

With a six-wicket win at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), Australia have won the five-match series against India 3-1. Not just that, this is their first series win over India in 10 years and has ensured that they reclaim the Border-Gavaskar Trophy since losing it in 2017.

Pat Cummins, therefore, becomes the first captain since Michael Clarke and Steven Smith (combined) in 2015 to win a Test series against India. Since then, India have won two series in Australia and two more at home, most recently in 2023.

This win also means that Australia have qualified for the World Test Championship (WTC) final for the second time in a row. They will take on South Africa in the final at Lord's on June 11.

Needing 162 to win on day three, Australia were reduced to 58/3 before Usman Khawaja (41) and Travis Head (34*) put on 46 for the fourth wicket to steady the ship. Beau Webster (39*) and Head then took it from there and got Australia home without any more hiccups.

Australia's series did not start well. They were handed a sound thrashing in the first Test in Perth before rallying to win three of the next four Tests to clinch the series.

Pat Cummins finished as the leading wicket-taker for Australia with 25 scalps, while Travis Head, with 448 runs at 56, is the highest wicket-taker across the five matches.
