Australia post their highest home Test total against India in nearly a decade

Meanwhile, it was also the first occasion where Indian pacers picked up all ten wickets in an innings at the Gabba

After years of struggle, Australia finally posted their highest Test total at home against India, scoring 445 in the third Test at the Gabba on December 16. It was the first time they have crossed the 400-run mark at home this year in Tests.

The last time Australia scored 400 runs in a Test innings was in December 2023, against Pakistan, when they scored 487 at Perth. Australia went on to win by 360 runs in the match.

However, it is the first time Australia have crossed the 400-run mark in nearly a decade against India, with their previous high score being 369, which they posted in the infamous loss at the same venue three years ago. Australia could post beyond 400 because of the contrasting centuries from Steve Smith and Travis Head, who combined to put 253 runs on the board for the hosts and were later helped by Alex Carey's 70.

At the other end, it was a record outing for the Indian pacers, who scalped all ten wickets in the innings. It was the first time that the Indian pacers have scalped all ten wickets in an innings here in Brisbane, with 9/207 being their previous best, which came in the 2021 series.

Only one team has lost when they have posted 400 runs on the board here at the Gabba, and that being India back in 2014, when a Steve Smith century and a flurry of scores lower down the order helped Australia to complete a comeback win.
