Australia name Alyssa Healy full-time captain across formats

Australian Women’s selectors have also named Tahlia McGrath as Healy’s deputy after the 28-year-old all-rounder led Adelaide Strikers to their second successive WBBL titles

Alyssa Healy has permanently succeeded legendary Meg Lanning as the skipper of the Australian Women’s team for all three formats of the game. After Lanning went on a mental health break, Healy led Australia against England, Ireland, and West Indies, and now with Lanning calling it a day from the sport, she has been chosen to take the legacy forward.

"I am honoured to accept the role of captain and am grateful for the opportunity to lead our team," Healy said. "I've really enjoyed the support of the players over the past few months and their encouragement to continue to be who I am and lead the group like I normally would from within.

"My approach will remain consistent with what it has been previously, but I'll make my own mark on the role and be sure that I'm doing the best I possibly can for this group to maintain the success that we've had."

Earlier, Healy has also captained New South Wales in the Women’s National Cricket League since 2018 and was the Sydney Sixers vice-captain for the first seven WBBL seasons.

Australian Women’s selectors have also named Tahlia McGrath as Healy’s deputy after the 28-year-old all-rounder led Adelaide Strikers to their second successive WBBL titles. McGrath has also led Australia a couple of times when Healy was absent.
