Jofra Archer has successfully recovered from his right elbow injury and has been named in the England squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA. The right-arm paceman's last international appearance came over a year ago in England’s tour of Bangladesh in March 2023.
Left-arm spin-bowling allrounder Tom Hartley, who impressed everyone in the Test series against India, is the only uncapped player in the squad. He has been picked ahead of Rehan Ahmed. Adil Rashid is the other frontline spinner in the set-up.
Meanwhile, Chris Jordan has also earned a recall. The 35-year-old last played for England in September 2023. Jordan has been preferred over Chris Woakes. Jordon has 96 wickets in 88 T20Is at an average of 27.68 and an economy rate of 8.72.
The former has also been in great batting form since 2022, scoring 560 runs in 39 T20 innings at an average of 26.67 and a strike rate of 152.2. Jordon can get runs down the order and that might have worked in his favour, especially with Jamie Overton injured.
Jos Buttler-led England are also scheduled to play a four-match T20I series against Pakistan and will be playing so with the same squad. The ECB release stated that the selected players, currently playing in the Indian Premier League, will return in time for the series against Pakistan, which gets underway at Headingley on May 22.
The defending champions are placed in Group B alongside Australia, Namibia, Scotland and Oman. England are scheduled to play their first T20 World Cup game against Scotland on June 4 in Barbados.
