West Indies head coach Daren Sammy termed fast bowler Alzarri Joseph's behaviour as "unacceptable." Joseph had an argument with skipper Shai Hope during the third One-Day International (ODI) between West Indies and England in Barbados. The pacer was so furious that he left the field at the end of the over but returned an over later after he had calmed down in the dressing room.
Sammy tried his best to diffuse the situation from the sidelines but to no avail. "Behaviour like that is unacceptable on my cricket field," Sammy said to TalkSPORT after the match.
"We will be friends…but in the culture I'm trying to build, that's unacceptable. We will definitely have a chat about that."
Joseph returned with the wickets of Jordan Cox and Dan Mousley, finishing with 2/45 from his 10 overs as West Indies claimed an eight-wicket victory to claim the series 2-1.
Sammy, who was appointed head coach in May 2023, said that he is proud to see West Indies heading in the right direction. "I pride myself on having the difficult conversations," Sammy said.
"But in a way that everybody understands what is needed to be done. To see guys going out there and slowly progressing in the right direction makes me proud. There's still a lot of work to be done, but it's one that I'm quite passionate about."
The five-match T20 International (T20I) series will begin on November 9 (Saturday), and Sammy hinted that a few senior players who missed the Sri Lanka tour could return. "We've got a couple of senior players who were not in Sri Lanka that we expect to be back," Sammy said.
"Our T20 team is our most successful team and our most settled team. So, yes, we incorporate some new guys to give them that exposure, but our T20 team normally picks itself."
