Abhishek Sharma scores joint second-fastest hundred in T20 history

Estonian cricketer Sahil Chauhan holds the record for the fastest century in T20s, which he achieved against Cyprus in Episkopi earlier this year

Abhishek Sharma is back! After a slew of uninspiring performances in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy - Abhishek Sharma scored the joint second-fastest hundred in T20 history to bury Meghalaya by seven wickets.

Chasing 144, Punjab raced to the total in just 9.3 overs, with the opener scoring 103 runs off just 29 deliveries. In fact, he took just 28 deliveries to get to the mark.

After a successful series against South Africa, Abhishek wanted to carry the momentum in the domestic T20 competition, but barring a 61-run knock against Madhya Pradesh, he didn’t do much. That all changed in the clash against Meghalaya when he started tonking it away from the very beginning to score 50 runs off 14 balls and then raced to 103 off just 29 balls.

This is the joint fastest century by a batter in the shortest format of the game - with Estonian cricketer Sahil Chauhan holding the record for fastest century in T20s which he achieved against Cyprus in Episkopi earlier this year. Gujarat’s Urvil Patel scored a 28-ball century against Tripura last week, with which Abhishek has now tallied.
