Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have confirmed that pace bowling all-rounder Aamer Jamal, who had an impressive debut series against Australia at the end of last year, has been ruled out of the forthcoming two-Test series against Bangladesh due to a back injury.
The 28-year-old’s participation in the series was subject to fitness, but the board have confirmed that the pacer has been released and instead been asked to rehab at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore.
“Right-arm fast bowler Aamer Jamal has been released from the Test squad ahead of the series against Bangladesh. Aamer, who was earlier included in the squad subject to fitness clearance, has been advised to work on his fitness at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore,” the PCB confirmed in a statement.
Jamal has been out of action since June. The pacer picked up the back injury while playing for Warwickshire, who had signed up the 28-year-old for a few County games and the group stages of the T20 blast.
Losing the pacer is a significant blow for Pakistan, considering the right-armer was their best player in their last red-ball outing, eight months ago. There, in conditions that can be unforgiving, Jamal picked up 18 wickets at an average of 20.44. He registered two six-wicket hauls. Additionally, Jamal also scored 143 runs at an average of 28.60, top scoring with 82 in the third Test in Sydney.
