5 stories from Australia’s win against Oman in Barbados

Australia had a very comfortable victory against Oman, but it didn't always look as comfortable

Oman hand Australia early jitters

Oman knew they were no match to Australia but kept their composure with the ball - coupled with assistance form the pitch - to ensure Australia were down to 50/3 in 8.3 overs. Mehran Khan, who led the carnage in the Namibia clash, was once again the wrecker-in-chief.

Warner-Stonis lead Australia’s recovery

On the face of a plunging rate, Australian batters, David Warner and Marcus Stoinis didn’t step feet on the accelerator, instead built it brick-by-brick. It also helped that Oman fielders were terrific on the field and didn’t give away any easy runs.

Stoinis goes bang-bang

The Hulk arrived and then, owned the world. The star of the evening, Mehran was taken down to the cleaners by Stoinis, who hit four sixes in the 15th over before hitting Kaleemullah for two sixes in the 19th over. Half-centuries from Stoinis (67*) and David Warner (56) ensured that Australia finished with 164/5.

No batting resistance

165, on the face of it, wasn’t a huge total, but Oman didn’t have enough strength to hold off the Aussies. They continuously lost wickets at a regular interval and at one point were down to 34-4 before crawling to 89-7. Ayaan Khan (30-ball 36) and Mehran (16-ball 27) did take them to 125/9.

Stoinis the star yet again

Stoinis decided to bring his bowling pyrotechnics to the fore, grabbing three wickets for just 19 runs. He was rightfully adjudged the Man of the Match.
