5 highlights from Day 2 of the Rawalpindi Test

Bangladeshi openers see out 12 overs at the end of the day after Pakistan declared on 448/6. Here’s a recap of the play on Day 2

Shakeel and Rizwan’s partnership

Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan continued their partnership from last night and notched up 240 runs, which is the fifth-highest fifth-wicket partnership in Pakistan’s history.

Shakeel’s continues home domination

Shakeel scored 141 runs in 261 deliveries and became the joint fastest Pakistani batter, scoring 1,000 runs in Test cricket. He has the most runs for any batter after playing 20 Test innings.

Rizwan’s stellar run

Rizwan (171*) scored the most runs in a Test innings for a Pakistani wicketkeeper this century and helped Pakistan declare their innings on a high at 448/6.

Bangladesh’s lack of penetration

Bangladesh bowlers, both pacers and spinners, failed to get any extra movement from the pitch that could trouble the batters. Only two wickets fell in the day, both to spin, with Shakeel being stumped by Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Shakib, making Agha Salman's miscue a big shot.

Bangladesh’s solid start with the bat

Openers Shadman Islam (12*) and Zakir Hasan (11*) did brilliantly to see out the 12 overs at the end of the day without losing any wicket. The pitch is great for batting and is predicted to remain batter-friendly on Day 3.
