In the fourth round of the Ranji Trophy 2023/24 plate group match, Tanmay Agarwal flattened Arunachal Pradesh with a blistering knock of 366 from just 181 balls.
After dismissing Arunachal for just 172, the left-handed opener from Hyderabad smashed an unbeaten 323 on the first day itself. To his overnight score, he could add only 43 runs. However, plenty of records were broken on the course:
- Tanmay reached his double century in just 119 balls, the second-fastest overall in first-class after Shafiqullah Shinwari's 89-ball feat for Kabul Region against Boost Region in 2018.
He is the fastest Indian to this record, beating Ravi Shastri's 123-ball double against Baroda in 1985.
- He registered his triple century in just 147 balls, the fastest by any batter in FC.
- When he scored an unbeaten 323 on Day One, he became the first Indian batter to hit 300 runs in a single day in FC.
Overall, his score was the seventh-highest by a batter in a single day's play of FC cricket.
- His innings included 26 sixes, which is the most by a batter in an FC innings. He went past Colin Munro's (playing for Auckland) record of 23 against Central District in 2015.
In fact, his 26 sixes are the most by a batter in an FC match. Shafiqullah Shinwari had hit 24 sixes against Boost Region in 2018.
