12 marquee players including Pant, Rahul, Iyer to start IPL 2025 auction

Jofra Archer hasn't been shortlisted in the list of 574 players to be auctioned

Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer will be part of the first set of marquee players with KL Rahul placed in the second set of the same category. The Indian Premier League (IPL) mega-auction for the upcoming cycle will have two marquee player sets, as was the case in 2014 and 2018.

The auction will be held on two days — November 24 and 25 — in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and will start at 12:30 PM local time, i.e., 3 PM IST.

Other players in the first marquee set are Jos Buttler, Kagiso Rabada, Arshdeep Singh and Mitchell Starc. The second marquee set includes Yuzvendra Chahal, Mohammed Siraj, David Miller, Mohammed Shami and Liam Livingstone.

The third set will feature an exclusive category of batters, including Harry Brook, David Warner, and Rahul Tripathi, followed by all-rounders like Ravichandran Ashwin, Venkatesh Iyer, and Glenn Maxwell

A total of 1,574 players registered for the auction. The list has been trimmed down to 574 players, including 366 Indians and 208 overseas cricketers. Surprisingly, Jofra Archer isn't among the shortlisted players.

The overseas list contains three associate cricketers — Brandon McMullen (Scotland), Ali Khan and Unmukt Chand (USA). Thomas Draca, who created waves on social media as the only Italian player to register for the auction and part of the MI Emirates side in ILT20, has not been shortlisted.

A maximum of 204 slots will be available at the auction, with 70 spots open for overseas cricketers. 81 players have registered at the highest base price of INR 2 crore.

James Anderson is the oldest player shortlisted (42 years old), while the 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi (recently picked In India's squad for Men's U19 Asia Cup 2024) is the youngest in the lot.
