Safety and security will be our No.1 priority: CWI chief after T20 WC terror threat

The Caribbean Islands have received terror alerts from North Pakistan just a month before the start of the tournament

Just weeks before the start of the T20 World Cup in West Indies and the United States of America (USA), the tournament has been struck with terror concerns. According to Cricbuzz, the Caribbean Islands have received terror alerts from North Pakistan just a month before the start of the tournament.

"We work closely with authorities in the host countries and cities, and continually monitor and evaluate the global landscape to ensure appropriate plans are in place to mitigate any risks identified to our event," Jonny Graves, the CEO of the Cricket West Indies (CWI) told Cricbuzz.

However, Graves was quick to state that ‘safety and security’ would be CWI’s number one priority going into the tournament.

"We want to assure all stakeholders that safety and security of everyone at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup is our number one priority and we have a comprehensive and robust security plan in place," Graves further told Cricbuzz

As per the source, the security alert stated, “Pro-Islamic State (IS) media sources have launched campaigns inciting violence against sporting events, which included video messages from the Afghanistan-Pakistan branch, ISKhorasan (IS-K) which highlighted assaults in numerous countries and urged supporters to join the battlefield in their countries.”

It is only the Windies leg of the T20 World Cup that has received a terror threat, with Trinidad Prime Minister Keith Rowley already remeasuring the safety standards needed for the global event. Even Barbados is keeping a close eye on the safety concerns, as the global event will return to the Caribbean shore for the first time since 2010.
