It has been well over a month since India beat Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 final in Dubai. However, despite beating Pakistan thrice in the tournament and remaining unbeaten, India have neither received the trophy nor the medals that they deserve.
India refused to take the trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman Mohsin Naqvi. Naqvi, who is also the interior minister of Pakistan, decided to take the trophy and the medals with him when India refused to engage with him. Since then, the BCCI and PCB have gone back and forth with both boards refusing to budge from their positions.
The stand-off between India and Pakistan is due to the deteriorating political relationship between the two countries over the last 6-7 months.
Reacting to this behaviour from Naqvi, BCCI joint secretary Devjit Saikia issued an ultimatum to Naqvi, ordering him to send the trophy and medals to the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai right away.
“Yes, we are a little bit unhappy with the way the trophy has not been given to us even after a month,” he stated, according to PTI as reported by Hindustan Times.
“We are pursuing this matter. About 10 days ago, we also wrote a letter to the chairman of ACC, but there is no change in their stand. They are still keeping the trophy under their custody, but we hope that the trophy will reach us in a day or two at the BCCI office in Mumbai."
Saikia has threatened to go to the ICC if their demands are not met. “On behalf of the BCCI, we are fully prepared on how to deal with the matter, and I can assure the people of India that the trophy will now come back to India; only the timeline is not fixed. One day it will come,” he added.
India beat Pakistan by five wickets in the Asia Cup final to clinch the title. The Suryakumar Yadav-led side got the better of their arch-rivals in the Super Fours and also the group stage.
