Old records shattered, new records created at Eden Gardens

The 42nd game of IPL 2024 witnessed never-broken T20 records getting demolished as KKR and PBKS broke almost all statistical paraments and set new heights

Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 has seen records getting broken every second day. Almost all records are getting rewritten as batters are taking big hitting to a whole new level. Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, and Hyderabad saw all previous highest totals at their venues getting shattered.

On April 26 (Friday), it was the turn of the "Mecca of Indian Cricket", The Eden Gardens, to set its record straight as Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) set big records batting first. For their lack of fortune, all those records were destroyed within a couple of hours by their opponent Punjab Kings, who scripted history.

Here are the records broken during the course of the game:

KKR posted 261 batting first on their home turf. It was then the highest total posted at Eden Gardens in any T20 game. With a world record chase ahead of them, Punjab Kings (PBKS) took up the challenge, laid out a solid chase plan and executed it to perfection, resulting in the highest successful run chase in T20 cricket history.

With 261 and 262 being scored in both innings, respectively, a total of 523 runs were posted combined, which is the joint second-highest aggregate in a T20 game.

Among the 523 runs, 400 were scored by fours and sixes, which is also the joint most runs scored in boundaries in a T20 match.

Speaking of fours and sixes, the Eden Gardens witnessed a total of 79 boundaries in the game. It is the second most boundaries hit in a T20 contest.
